Goal: The learner will be able to screen for tobacco use in adolescent and adult patients and provide basic motivational and behavioral tobacco interventions. This module focuses on interventions for patients who are not ready to quit tobacco.
Screen patients for tobacco use
Provide brief counseling interventions for patients who are not ready to quit tobacco
Use motivational interviewing skills when counseling patients in tobacco interventions
(Est time: 1 hr) This course is for nurses and is dedicated to training nurses in counseling people who are quitting tobacco, pharmacotherapy for quitting tobacco, followup on tobacco interventions, and practicing tobacco intervention clinical skills.
Goal: The learner will be able to provide basic behavioral and pharmacological tobacco interventions for patients who are ready to quit tobacco use or who have recently quit and follow-up appropriately after providing SBIRT services for tobacco. Additionally, the learner will practice and integrate SBIRT clinical skills learned in these modules.
Provide basic behavioral interventions for patients who are ready to quit tobacco use
Provide basic pharmacological tobacco interventions for patients who are ready to quit tobacco use
Provide follow up and relapse prevention for patients who have quit smoking
Apply screening, counseling, and prescribing skills with a simulated patient who uses tobacco
(Est time: 0.5 hrs) This non-credit module is for nurses and is dedicated to providing nurses with information on how to get reimbursed for tobacco interventions. It includes information on Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance reimbursement as well as recent and upcoming changes in regulations.
Goal: The learner will better understand how to get reimbursed for providing patients with tobacco interventions.
Provide appropriate insurance codes for screening and brief interventions for tobacco cessation
Follow regulations and find resources on how to bill for tobacco interventions for different insurance types
Describe how the Mental Health/Addiction Parity Act and Affordable Care Act affects and will affect reimbursement for tobacco interventions in the near future.
